PCA9555
NXP PCA9555 16-bit I2C and SMBus I/O expander with an interrupt output, up to eight on one bus, in a 24-pin package.
The PCA9555 is an NXP 24-pin CMOS device that provides 16 bits of general-purpose parallel input and output expansion for the I2C bus and the SMBus, in a 24-pin package. It was developed to enhance the NXP family of I2C I/O expanders, and it gives a small host sixteen extra ports that it can read or drive over the two-wire bus, with an interrupt output that tells the host when an input changes so it does not have to poll. The device includes an internal power-on reset, a set of configuration registers that make each port an input or an output, and it provides a strong sink and source current that suits an LED or a small load. Three address pins allow up to eight expanders on one bus, so a designer can add I/O in blocks of sixteen without a larger host, and the ESD protection and the industrial temperature range suit a control and a consumer application. Typical applications include an industrial control board, a consumer and an appliance product, a server and a networking system that must add buttons, LEDs, relays or control lines. Every device BeiLuo ships is factory-traceable and includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file. Our FAE team helps you choose the ports and plan the addressing and the pull-ups.
FAE Professional Review
The PCA9555 adds sixteen I/O ports to a host over I2C, and the interrupt output saves the host from polling every input. It is a simple way to grow a control board without a larger MCU. Use the three address pins to place several expanders on one bus, keep the pull-ups and the capacitance in mind, and plan the interrupt line in the firmware.

Frequently Asked Questions
What projects suit the PCA9555?
It suits a design that must add sixteen I/O ports to a small host over the I2C bus, such as a control board, a consumer product or a server that needs more buttons, LEDs, relays or control lines.
Our FAE team can help plan the ports.
How does the interrupt help?
The interrupt output tells the host when an input changes, so the host does not have to poll every port, which saves the bus bandwidth and the processor time. Connect the interrupt to a host input and service it in the firmware.
Our FAE team can review the interrupt plan.
Is the device genuine and documented?
BeiLuo supplies factory-traceable PCA9555 devices with an import declaration, certificate of origin and RoHS file on every order. Stock is normally available and the datasheet downloads from this page.
